After dinner topic of conversation tonight:
Millie: I don't understand ..... (long pause as she formulated her thoughts). How were there no people when the dinosaurs lived? How did that happen? Where did the mom that had the first baby come from?
Well. That is one doozy of a question! We got to talk about several different theories -- evolution (which was hard to grasp -- "how does a monkey turn into a human?"), creationism ("well that doesn't make sense"), a hybrid theory, the big-bang theory, genetic make-up of people and animals ... I'm sure my science was off on a lot of it, but it was really awesome to see her really trying to make sense of everything I was saying and to keep asking deeper and deeper questions. Really awesome. I asked her how SHE thought the first people got to be on Earth and she said she thought two dinosaurs got together and laid an egg and it had a human baby in it :). We may have to revisit the part on genetics ;).
Afterwards she gave me a hug and told me I put so many thoughts in her head. I told her to keep thinking and keep asking questions always. What a wonderful moment.
