Teddy Turns Two

We had a lot of fun celebrating Teddy's 2nd birthday (a couple of weeks ago...) with a small party with our family and Teddy's godparents.  It was a very low-key celebration with lots of time to play and visit -- no crafts or games, which meant I actually got to do some visiting too.  There will be time for an elaborate party next year :).  There were LOTS of vehicles around before the party and even MORE after the party.  Teddy has been in truck, train, tractor, car heaven ever since.  

**disclaimer -- I was playing around with the settings on my camera before the party and left them, (because on the camera screen they looked okay...), unfortunately they didn't turn out that great on the computer.  Lesson learned, don't experiment when you care about the pictures...)

First Day of School Take Two

So, obviously, our first day of school didn't go quite as planned.  As I was doing Merrill's hair this morning, I discovered lice ... again.  There was a lot of crying at that point.  And then I checked Millie and there was MORE crying.  Who wants to miss the first day of school?!  Who wants to miss the first day of KINDERGARTEN?!  I may have joined in on the crying.  Usually moms cry because their kids are leaving for school, not because they are staying home.  I felt AWFUL for not finding this earlier.  Definitely not a mom-of-the-year moment.

Scott headed up to Walgreens to get treatments for the girls and we started the massive amounts of laundry right away.  Ironically, I still got to walk to school since I had committed to helping out our neighbor (Millie's friend) by walking her daughter to school this week.  It was not easy to see all the other parents taking pictures and saying their goodbyes while my girls sat at home.  But, I did get a chance to talk to the school nurse and I found out that once the girls were done with their treatment they could come into school -- no waiting 24 hours, or days or anything.  This was good news.  Of course, the treatment took four hours ...  Fortunately, after the initial tears, the girls were good sports about everything and played legos in the basement the whole time.  We got their hair washed and combed through and headed up to school a little before 2:00 (only 5 hours late!).

Their first day only consisted of about an hour and a half, but they made it.  I even took advantage of the fact that we were the only ones walking into the school and took some pictures before going in.  It wasn't our ideal first day, in fact Merrill said it wasn't her first day at all (tomorrow is), but we made it through.  If there is one thing I never wanted to be a parent-expert in, it's lice removal.  Sigh.  Here's hoping tomorrow is MUCH better.

When we got home, Scott took the kids out for pizza while I headed to the gym. Our day ended a lot better than it started!

***Now that the girls are in school maybe I'll get around to filling in the last 3 weeks of our summer...
