Father's Day
We did our best to spoil Scott today to let him know how much we love and appreciate him. We let him sleep in all the way to 7:15, he got a relaxing back massage in bed compliment of the kids, a new t-shirt and some toy cars, we took him to brunch at my sister's, and served him cookie cake covered in blue frosting :). Our day after brunch was pretty quiet. We contemplated an afternoon outing, but it got a little late in the afternoon by the time Teddy woke up from his nap. I think we were due for a quiet weekend at home though. We ate dinner on the patio and Scott and the girls went to the school playground for a bit while Teddy played in the water table. All in all, a day full of family time. Happy Father's Day to all of the wonderful dad's in our lives! (please excuse the abundance of pictures ...)

A New Smile
Millie has lost two teeth in the past two days. Specifically, her two front teeth. She swallowed the first one while eating an apple on the way home from my parents' house on Tuesday. She pulled the other one yesterday after she discovered it was dangling from one side. She also has one loose on the bottom -- I don't know that she'll be eating much corn on the cob this summer! We've also learned that our tooth fairy is very busy and often doesn't get here until the next morning after breakfast ...

A Trip To the River's Edge
Scott and Teddy and I headed up to Milford, MI early last Friday morning to visit our good friends Ryan and Carrie. The trip was planned, partially, to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, which was last Thursday, and partially to go to the opening of Ryan and Carrie's new micro-brewery. Though the actual trip didn't really fulfill either of those plans.
To begin with, you might have noticed that Teddy was along for the ride. Now, he's a cute kid and all, but a road trip with your 22-month old isn't exactly romantic ;). We had intended to take the trip alone and leave all of the kids with my (very generous) parents, but as the trip got closer, I just couldn't see leaving Teddy behind. It would have been a very rough few days for everyone (mostly my parents because I don't think they would have gotten any sleep) and it would have meant the end of nursing for Teddy. Granted, he's almost two and that wouldn't have been the end of the world, but it's just not the way I wanted weaning to happen. So, we decided to take him along -- figuring traveling with one child instead of three was still a bit of a break. (We did contemplate taking all of the kids with us -- even as late as the day before we left -- but we knew the girls would have a lot fun with my parents and we didn't want to take that away from either of them. Plus now that the girls are older, they are a little easier to manage, especially at night -- though they still require a LOT of energy!).
In addition to that, the soft opening got moved back to this coming weekend -- Father's day weekend. While my parents would have been okay moving the trip back a week, Scott didn't want to be away from the kids for Father's day. I don't blame him. So, we weren't there for the opening, but we did get to see the brewery, we got to spend some time with Ryan and Carrie (though they were obviously very busy!), and got to help out in some small ways, which was nice. Teddy had a great time (except for the early morning start to the trips -- there was a lot of "get me out!!" before he went back to sleep in the car, which was three hours into the trip on the way there and cries of "I want to go back night-night in bed!" when we got him up to go home). By the last night of the trip he was running around the brewery yelling "Dairy! Dairy!" (Carrie...).
So, while the trip didn't go as originally planned, we still enjoyed ourselves immensely. We got to see one of Scott's cousins as well as some of his college friends, spend time on Ryan and Carrie's farm (one of my favorite places), relax and move at a much slower pace, sleep in (Teddy is our one child who doesn't automatically wake up at 6:00 every morning...), Scott got a much needed break from work, got to drink some good beer, and laugh a lot. What more could we ask for in a vacation?

The bowling pin tap is for the Leonard Slye Pale Ale -- one of the first beers they will be serving. Scott is Leonard Slye. He's kinda famous now ;). Bonus trivia points for anyone who knows who the REAL Leonard Slye is!

My small contribution to the opening -- an edible logo! I'm sad that I'm not there to bake the cookie cake to put it on, but it was fun to make at least this part.

He was literally running in circles at this point ... got to be a bit of a late night. We were hoping it would help him sleep better in the car on the ride home. Didn't quite work out that way.
We'll be headed back to Michigan at the end of July to visit family and we'll definitely be stopping back in Milford so the girls can see Ryan and Carrie and the farm and so that Scott can sit down and have a beer at The River's Edge. Can't wait!
