Birth-week

Somehow Millie has managed to swing another week-long birthday celebration this year, though so far things haven't gone quite as planned.  I decided to let Millie skip school on Friday so that she could come to "music class" with Merrill and I (I put that in quotes because it is just a group of us who used to pay a lot to go to Music Together classes and have decided that we can conduct the classes on our own just as well for much less money, i.e. free.  It works and it's fun, though maybe not quite as structured as the real thing ;).)  Millie knows the families we meet with and is always sad that she doesn't get to go, so since she was going to have a birthday celebration that afternoon, I decided to just make the whole day a special and fun one.

The plan was to go to music class, come home for lunch and then for Millie to spend the afternoon and night with my parents and then a small birthday gathering with family and a few friends when she got home Saturday morning.  Unfortunately, while she DID stay home from school Friday, she did not get to go to music class and did not get to spend the night with my parents because she started running a fever Thursday night.  We managed to improvise though and still have a pretty nice day (she still got her presents from my parents and her much anticipated cupcake) even though it ended with a trip to the Dr. and a diagnosis of strep throat.  She felt pretty good throughout the day as long as she had her Ibuprofen in her, but as soon as the medicine wore off her fever spiked and she just wilted.  When she was feeling good she really wanted to stay the night as planned, but by the time the medicine wore off she said "let's go get my stuff" and was ready to pack up and go home.  That was a clear sign she really wasn't feeling well. We had to cancel our get-together today since Millie was still contagious, but she still has lots of birthday plans on tap for the rest of the week, so I think it will be okay.  Her antibiotics have kicked in and she's definitely feeling better and tomorrow she gets to come out of quarantine :).
a yummy lunch at Lainie's -- she had to share with Merrill and me, but she was okay with that
 presents -- a sleeping bag!

 and of course the cupcake

happy to be (almost) four -- it is currently her favorite number :)

you can see in her eyes here that she isn't feeling great.  Poor girl

Merrill was feeling just fine and enjoyed the lunch and cupcakes too

Millie in her new nightgown from Lainie and Grandpa -- her afternoon dose of Ibuprofen finally kicked in and she got her first dose of antibiotics -- she was feeling pretty good (of course right at bedtime when I wanted her to sleep...).  In fact, she was feeling so good she was doing handstands.  Yeah, sleep wasn't happening right then!

Even though we had to cancel our gathering for this morning, Millie was still determined to put on her party clothes.  No reason to let being sick get in the way of fashion!

Millie is looking forward to her date with Brandon and Mary tomorrow and our trip to Michigan later this week -- there is still a lot of celebrating to be done!  It's hard to believe my baby is turning four ... but I say that every year.  It's been a wonderful four years though!
