Yesterday after Merrill's birthday party, we packed up the van and headed out to my parent's cabin to see the fireworks show. It may have added up to "too much birthday" for the kids, but they enjoyed the evening and Scott and I made sure to lower our behavior expectations today ;). We got out to Innsbrook in time to have a light dinner and to allow the kids to play for a bit. Then we headed over to the hill by the lake. We got there about 45 minutes before the show started so we were able to people watch, listen to the music, and chase fireflies. Despite being tired, Teddy had a blast crawling around on the blanket. The only problem was we were on a pretty steep hill and every time he started to crawl down he ended up rolling/sliding. He thought this was hilarious, I did not. The fireworks show was great and all of the kids really enjoyed it (though Millie did start asking when it was going to be over about half-way through -- she was really tired too). The finale was worth the wait though, in fact it was probably the most amazing string of fireworks I had seen. It could not have been a nicer night -- temperatures in the 70's, not muggy, no wind, and the best company I could ask for.
Millie REALLY wanted to catch a firefly -- unfortunately she screamed and jumped every time she came close!
Almost! She thought she had one, but then realized it had gotten away...
