Millie came home Friday from school very determined to catch a leprechaun this year. She came up with a bowl of money as her first trap. Her plan was to sit at the table looking bored so the leprechaun (O'Reily) wouldn't notice or suspect her and then she would grab him when he tried to get the money. Not a bad plan, except for the part where she was going to sit there all day and night waiting for him...

So, I picked up this "trap" at Michaels and the girls painted it green and gold and put the money inside
We came very close to catching him, but unfortunately he found a hole in the screen an wriggled his way out. He left a note, a glittery trail, and a scrap of fabric from his coat that snagged on the screen. The girls were disappointed that he got away, but they loved collecting all of the evidence that he had been there and discovering all of the tricks he played!
O'Reilly created a bit of mischief in the house after he escaped
he moved furniture around and turned the chairs upside down
he turned the oatmeal and almond milk green! (the girls were a little suspicious of the green cereal and took a while before they would eat it, but eventually they decided it made them more brave as they looked for more of O'Reily's misdeeds
Food is more fun in the shape of a shamrock! Millie was sure to ask for the scraps to make sure she didn't get cheated out of any toast ;)
The girls were mystified by this glow-in-the-dark image on the bathroom wall. (everything seems magical on St. Patrick's Day when you are 3 and 5). We decided it must have been O'Reily's door into our house. The girls needed a lot of green cereal to increase their bravery enough to really inspect this door. They touched it and tried to get it to open by yelling at it, but it just didn't open. It disappeared a few hours into the day signaling that O'Reily had left to go back to Ireland and that he was done playing tricks in the house :). We will be ready for him when he comes back next year though, so he'd better watch out!
