A.C.E.S. Day

Millie's school participated in A.C.E.S. day yesterday -- a national fitness program that happens on the first Wednesday of every May where All Children Exercise Simultaneously.  Our elementary school has been doing this for 17 years!  I think that each school participates in whatever way that they want as long as all of the children are involved in some kind of exercise.  Our school dances :).  The fifth graders pick the songs, choreograph routines, and then teach the routines to the rest of the school.  They've been working on these dances in gym class for some time judging by how long we've been hearing Millie sing the songs ...  The students and staff all gathered in the front parking lot and danced together to four songs.  It was a beautiful morning and so much fun to watch!  It was also fun to think that when Millie is in fifth grade and (possibly) one of the ones making up the dances, Teddy will be a Kindergartner (and Merrill a fourth grader).  That is going to be one extra fun year.

We have been listening to sound-bites from "Roar" for months now -- quite often with mixed up lyrics ;).

They also danced to "Best Day of My Life" -- Millie liked all of the songs except the last one (seen below).  She came to me last week and told me I wouldn't like the way she shook her 'booty' in one of the dances and that she thought the song and dance were not appropriate.  She was very serious.  I advised her to talk to her teachers if she wasn't comfortable doing the dance -- and she did, unfortunately it was the day before the performance and they weren't very receptive.  I was proud of her for voicing her feelings though.  You can see the dislike on her face during the song ...  It wasn't until today when I 'Googled' the song that I found out it's from "Ice Age 4" -- not a bad song, but maybe a little more adult in the moves than she was comfortable with.
