Ready to Go

After Millie's school concert on Friday, we headed home to pack up for a weekend trip to Chicago to visit friends.  Needless to say, we were all very excited for our trip (which we were supposed to take in February but had to cancel because 4 out 5 of us got knocked out with a stomach bug ... in the end it worked out great because Chicago in late May is WAY better than Chicago in February!).  We pulled out the water table for the first time this season to keep Teddy and Merrill busy.  They had a blast -- and got soaking wet!  Then it was time to pick up Millie and head out.  It was a later start than we would have liked (we are a get-up-at-dawn-and-go kind of family so 3:45 was a REALLY late start), but it worked out.  We packed a dinner and other than hitting some traffic out of St. Louis it was an easy drive.  The kids handled the trip pretty well and managed to keep themselves pretty entertained with reading and drawing.  We finally convinced the girls to go to sleep about an hour outside of Chicago (well past their bedtimes) so they would be able to stay up for a bit with Tavi.  Teddy was not taking the bait... .  We got in a little after nine and the kids were glad they took those naps and were ready to play -- I think it was nearly 11 o'clock before the girls went to sleep (Teddy went down shortly after we got there).  It was an equally late night for the grown-ups as we also wanted to stay up and visit.  Midnight is a late night these days -- especially when morning comes at 5:30.  It was all worth being a little tired though!

Teddy was very upset Thursday night when the girls got out their suitcases and he discovered that he didn't have one.  A trip to Target Friday morning made him a very happy boy

I won't lie and say he was this happy the whole ride ;)

SO happy to be making their way to Chicago

FINALLY asleep (or at least 'resting their eyes')
